On Tuesday, November 15, 2011, over 500 friends joined The Community Foundation for Montgomery County (CFMC) to mark its 15th anniversary.
Cokie and Steve Roberts (Masters of Ceremonies) kicked off the program for the evening by welcoming the guests and reflecting on how dramatically the County has changed over the past 15 years. Sally Rudney (Executive Director) remarked on the growth of The Community Foundation and the impact made by through the generosity of our donors, who gave $6 million to County nonprofits last year alone. She also paid tribute to the founders of CFMC, and acknowledged several who joined us for the Celebration.

Rosalyn Levy Jonas (Board Chair) spoke about Sharing Montgomery, our donor-led grantmaking initiative which assists nonprofits working with the county’s lowest-income children, families and seniors. She also announced that CFMC received an anonymous $200,000 challenge grant to increase the Sharing Montgomery Endowment Fund in order to sustain and expand support to organizations serving our most vulnerable neighbors.

The evening concluded with the salute to our 2011 Montgomery County Philanthropist of the Year, Jeffrey Slavin. Friends Michelle Freeman and Courtney Clark Pastrick gave a heartfelt salute, highlighting the way Jeffrey has jumped “head first” into the leadership roles of many of our County’s most important civic institutions as a trustee, friend, activist, and philanthropist.
In his acceptance speech, Jeffrey challenged everyone to give where we live by finding a way to get involved here in our community.
